I need to know a little bit about home schooling, I may home school my daughter when we move. How exactly would I home school? Can anyone do it? Do I have to pay any money? Requirments? And anything else I should know. Im a college graduate and she will be going into the 10th grade.
How much time is involved? Does she have like a gym subject? Do I have to know every subject? How does she take a language?

don’t do it for the entire duration……she’ll miss out on social skills and be acceptable to con artistis and street talking thugs that will be able to con her into anything.

I know its a little late, but as a junior I want to start “homeschooling”. Is this possible and how do I start

Question by anonymous: I know its a little late, but as a junior I want to start “homeschooling”. Is this possible and how do I start
I mostly want to volunteer, learn subjects that have always interested me but aren’t thoroughly taught in school, and take some college classes. I have gone to a private school and am much more ahead than most students. I have a 4.2 GPA average and am tired of our school system, it is unmotivating and ineffective. What time commitments will my parents have to make? Will it affect me going to college? Anyone with knowledge or experience in this subject would be MUCH appreciated.

Check hslda.com.

This is a Christian site but even if you aren’t a Christian, this site is very well-informed and will have info about legalities in your state as well as info for college-bound students. Spend a little while perusing.

Your ability to attend college classes may vary according to your state’s laws, but many do allow you to dually enroll and earn college credit while still technically a high school student.

The time commitment required by your parents can be as little as a few hours per day, plus the driving you around to do your volunteer work and attend college if you are not driving yet.

Many colleges, even in the Ivy League, actively RECRUIT homeschoolers now. Look for more info about that on the website I gave you.

Best wishes!

EDITED TO ADD: you could go ahead and get your GED now too and go on to college right now, possibly. Many homeschoolers get GEDs and it does not affect your college admissions, assuming your SAT and/or ACT scores are adequate.

no…my cousins were home schooled for years. It was not a good thing for them. I don’t like the whole idea but it may be good for some. I think kids need socialization more than their family during those years.

None! I have been home-schooled my whole life. I still have many friends (People say if you are home-schooled you are anti-social but that is not true, unless you want it to be). I am sixteen and a senior plus I am going to college. But if you want to graduate when you are eighteen that is fine also :-)

Public and online school option?

Question by Marie: Public and online school option?
I’m a high school student in Oregon and i was wondering if it is any way possible that I could just drop one of my classes that I’m currently really struggling in to take an online class with an online schooling program. Also if you know of any please let me know! Thanks.

Hi Marie,

There are several online homeschooling options available from public to private. However, online courses do not necessarily mean “easier” work. I could list a ton of different online homeschooling sites, but your best option is to google “online high schools,” “Christian online high schools,” or “online homeschooling.” Here are a few good online homeschooling institutions:

The Grace Academy – www.learningbygrace.org
Liberty University – www.libertyonlineacademy.com
K12 – www.k12.com

Hope that helps! :-)

Ryan
